Dunan Bothy sits high above Loch Tay on the Ardtalnaig Estate, a 7 miles west of the picturesque village of Kenmore, in the very heart of Highland Perthshire. This is some of the best self-catering accommodation for people looking for that wild, remote getaway. This is the ultimate remote short-break getaway! We don’t do Saturday turnaround, so come for a romantic weekend or a mid-week break, relax and stay as long as you like.
This is a magical place – hidden 5 miles from the nearest tar road up Gleann a Chilleine, Dunan is true escape territory, with no other houses within miles, no electricity, it’s all about the natural Scottish beauty, changing weather, huge views, peace, tranquility a very much forgotten commodity in our modern world.
With a real chance of seeing the majestic Golden Eagle soar over head whilst sitting having a cup of tea or even a dram outside the bothy. We have over eight thousand five hundred acres of private estate, with old orchards, scenic mountains, heather moorland, and of course the loch to explore. This is a magical place where dreams are born, love rekindled and friendships strengthened.
Highland Perthshire is the start of the Scottish highlands, one of Europes magical places where nature comes first every time. Why not take the walk from Ardtalnaig to Ardeonaig where our hotel staff will fuss over you *driving you back to your Bothy after lunch or afternoon tea. In every direction there are walks and views to remember for the rest of your life with Ardtalnaig in the centre of all this who could wish to be in a better place.
Stay here for a week and you'll still only scratch the surface of all the things there are to do. But if all this activity is not for you, then you can make a picnic, saunter down to the loch, walk or cycle down to Loch Tay or pull out a couple of deck chairs and just sit back and relax.
The accommodation comprises a mezzanine bedroom (double bed or two single beds) a bathroom with bath, an open plan kitchen and comfortable lounge. A woodburning stove supplies heat and atmosphere, whilst the Raeburn range provides hot water, heating and cooking facilities. There is no electricity, so lighting is via oil lamps and candles. Basic kitchen equipment and food are provided, but a more comprehensive offer can be organised on request. |

Restaurants and Food:
We can supply fresh meat from our own estate, fresh fish and vegetables we also have a magnificent selection of South African wines. At Kenmore the little post office and store keeps all the basics and is open 7 days a week. Our hotel is down the road at Ardeonaig serving breakfast, lunches, afternoon teas and dinner.
Accommodation:
Inside you'll be impressed by the quaintness and space, the attention to detail will ensure your stay is one to remember. The decoration is simple – there is NO electricity, gas lanterns or windup lamps. We have plenty of books, magazines and games. There are deck chairs and a table for sitting outdoors and plenty of deep comfortable chairs indoors . We also provide a BBQ, charcoal, firelighters, matches and BBQ utensils. The bathroom is well stocked with Molton Brown soap, shampoo and conditioner, shower gel and body lotion; huge fluffy towels, plenty of loo rolls and a box of all those useful things you forgot to pack. The kitchen is very well equipped and spacious with plenty of work surface. A hob, two ovens, cooler box with ice packs to keep essentials cool. Lots glasses, lots of crockery, utensils, pots, pans and of course a sink with hot water.
Directions:
We are located is just two hours' driving from Glasgow airport, a little less from Edinburgh. There are railway stations at Pitlochry and Dunkeld, on the main Inverness line, both within about 45 minutes' driving. The city of Perth is one hour's drive to the south, Inverness two hours to the north. From the A9 take the A827 to Aberfeldy. Through the town and continue west on the A827 for about 6 miles until you come down hill towards Loch Tay where the road takes a very sharp bend to the right. Do not turn right, but go straight across the junction FOLLOWING THE SIGNS TO THE ARDEONAIG HOTEL (onto the narrow road that's facing you.) This is the South Loch Tay road and it follows the side of the loch due West. Follow the road for 7 miles until get to Ardeonaig Hotel. Here our friendly staff will welcome you, give you the keys and tell you what is going on locally during your stay. We will then take you to the property, show you in and make sure you get settled as quickly as possible.
What's included:
The price includes a welcome pack, sheets and towels and logs. The welcome pack is a great way to get your holiday - and appetite - started and includes milk, butter, eggs, homemade bread, homemade jam, marmalade bottle of great South African Bubbly. We also stock basics like tea, instant and fresh ground coffee, sugar, plain flour, olive and sunflower oils, mustard, assorted herbs and spices, salt and pepper, loo rolls, kitchen roll, cling film and tin foil. There are also cleaning things, washing up liquid, firelighters and matches.
